Books Forever Yours Mission
2005 Objectives
While continuing our mission, there are new challenges for 2005.
Involve more schools
-
Encourage schools to hold book drives
The most successful way to get book donations in the past has been through
schools.
- Encourage schools to hold Reading events
Reading or Literacy events at elementary schools can show students and
families alike that reading can be fun. It involves the whole family and
the entire school community. We currently participate in three Reading Night
programs.
- Host book exchange events at schools
Book exchange events are when students bring books to school and exchange
with one another. This encourages children to read, to share their favorite
books and to perhaps read different genres than they are used to reading.
Goal: Get 2 new schools to become involved in each area
Demographics
- Survey centers we serve. Many grants and/or donations of new books are for impoverished children.
- Contact organizations, like foster care and childcare licensing agencies, to better determine where there are children who are in need. Create a list of who to serve when donations increase.
Goal: Contact each center we serve and 4 child centric organizations
Find Funding Sources
- To purchase books:
New books through the non-profit, First Book ($.25 per book for shipping)
Used books though library sales ($.25 and $.50 per book) and 2nd Look Book ($.25 to $.50 per book using store credit)
Goal: Apply to 2 foundations for grants
Our Dreams
As our organization and funding grows, we have dreams for our future. These
may be big dreams but we hope to accomplish them someday.
- Purchasing a bus to use as a bookmobile. We will drive to neighborhoods
to give our books away.
- All Spokane County Elementary Schools will hold Reading/Literacy Events
and Book Exchanges for their school community.
- Community-wide Fund Raisers
- Creating a Literacy Event during the summer where there is literacy education
and thousands of books are given to everyone who attends.
- Partnering with the library. The library sends people to childcare centers
for story times on a regular basis. We'd like these story readers to bring our
books to these centers.
- Giving out awards to recognize literacy programs.
